Viscosity: Gear oil usually has a much higher viscosity than other oils.  A common misconception is that a stronger/faster pump is required in order to handle the high viscosity, when actually the opposite is true.  When you try to push a thick fluid through a precise filter element the result is a very high back pressure, which ultimately leads to poor filtration results or damaged filtration equipment.

Temperature: As temperature increases, the viscosity decreases, making it easier to filter without having a high differential pressure across the filter element.  It is important to find a balance as oil additives will be depleted as temperature increases.

Cutting oils / lubrication oil are primarily used as a lubricant in the interface between the chips and the tool’s cutting edge, reducing process friction and aiding in chip flow. Cutting oils are also employed as a cooling agent to remove any process-generated heat, as they increase the rate of heat flow from the machining process.

Thermal fluids are usually hydrocarbon based and can be either synthetic or organic. The fluids do not come in contact with the end products and can be heated to about 300°C in liquid phase systems. Thermic fluids are circulated through wood, gas, oil or electric heaters and are heated by heating elements, pumped to the process heat users and then returned at a cooler temperature to the heating elements to be heated again and pumped downstream in a continuous process. These organic heat transfer fluids are stable when operated below their thermal stability limit and not contaminated by outside factors. However, occasional overheating from extended contact with hot elements or exposure to atmospheric air results in contamination and the formulation of carbon insolubles which collect and deposit on the surfaces of the thermal fluid piping and at the heat users. This kind of fouling and build up of solids on system surfaces reduces the overall efficiency of the process. Cone Crusher Produces Heavy contamination into Lubrication oil which can be removed by Centrifugal Oil Filtration equipments.

Heavy duty machines like cone crushers are used in aggregate and mining industries to create sized aggregate from big rocks.

One of the key operating systems on a cone crusher is the lube oil circuit. On larger crushers, the lube circuit pushes more than 800 liters of oil per minute through the crusher bearings. However these crushers run in some of the worst dirt filled environments. Airborne dirt continuously crosses through the bearing seals, dumping a tremendous amount of abrasives into lube oil circuit. If the dirt is not controlled, excessive wear and failure result. The impact is severe: shutdown of a cone crusher means loss of thousands of rupees while repairs are completed.

Solution:

As any quench oil is used, its inherent properties of heat resistance, hardening ability, and finishing quality begin to degrade. A gradual buildup of particulate contamination causes this degradation in quench quality. Also, particulate contamination will promote cracking or distortion of steel parts.

Oxidation occurs in quench oil as it is exposed to air or oxygen. At elevated temperatures, this oxidation occurs at a relatively high rate. Oxidation results in the buildup of organic acids and the formation of insoluble materials, or sludge. These insoluble materials increase the viscosity and decrease the finishing quality of the quench oil.

When the oil is exposed to elevated temperatures, thermal cracking may occur. This thermal cracking results in the formation of new materials; some are light, relatively volatile products that lower the flash point of the oil while others are heavy, less volatile materials that increase the viscosity of the oil.
